Commending Vale United Methodist Church.

WHEREAS, on February 4, 2023, Vale United Methodist Church, a distinguished faith organization in Oakton, packaged its one-millionth meal to help fight hunger around the globe; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1894, Vale United Methodist Church has been a spiritual home to its congregation for many years and has inspired its members to live their lives in service to others; and

WHEREAS, every January, Vale United Methodist Church partners with the organization Rise Against Hunger to purchase food and package meals that will be boxed and shipped around the world; and

WHEREAS, meals prepared by the congregation at Vale United Methodist Church have been delivered to school nutrition programs, vocational programs, hospitals, and orphanages, meeting a critical need for countless individuals and families; and

WHEREAS, since 2008, Vale United Methodist Church has raised money for its anti-hunger initiatives by selling Christmas trees during the holiday season; today, the church sells more than 800 trees annually, which translates to more than 80,000 meals every year; and

WHEREAS, beyond its meals program with Rise Against Hunger, Vale United Methodist Church is also engaged in a number of endeavors in coordination with local organizations to address hunger in the Greater Washington, D.C., area; and

WHEREAS, Vale United Methodist Church's outreach efforts also include financial and volunteer support for several local organizations and endeavors, including hypothermia prevention shelters and homeless shelters, the immigration legal service organization Just Neighbors, and others; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Vale United Methodist Church are the result of the dedication and determination of its congregation and the generous support of both its partner organizations and the entire Northern Virginia community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Vale United Methodist Church of Oakton for packaging its one-millionth meal to fight hunger around the world; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of Vale United Methodist Church as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the church's achievements in the fulfillment of its mission.
