HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 170
Commending the Poquoson High School football team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 13, 2012
Agreed to by the Senate, January 19, 2012

WHEREAS, the Poquoson High School football team capped a spectacular season by winning the school's first Group AA, Division 3 state football championship in 2010; and

WHEREAS, following an outstanding regular season and successful post-season play, the Poquoson High School Islanders met the Richlands High School Blue Tornado at Liberty University's Williams Stadium for the state championship final; and

WHEREAS, after a slow first half that included a safety from the Islanders and a field goal from the Blue Tornado, both teams regrouped and came back strong for the second half; and

WHEREAS, the Poquoson High School football team had the advantage; senior players, Tee McConnell, Cody Hutchinson, Dylan Hill, and Luke Hill were experienced in state championship wins as part of the school's baseball team; and

WHEREAS, the seniors led the team into an offensive flurry in the second half, outscoring the Blue Tornado 21 - 14, demonstrating not only the team's well-known running game, but showing an impressive passing ability that thrilled the thousands of fans in attendance and resulted in a final score of 23 - 17; and

WHEREAS, the entire team worked hard throughout the 2010 season to win the state championship title and several players earned 2010 all-state honors from the Virginia High School Coaches Association, including Dustin Edwards, William Haskins, Stephen Boyer, and Luke Hill; and

WHEREAS, throughout the season, the Islanders received superior instruction and guidance from Head Coach Elliott Duty, who was named by the Virginia High School Coaches Association as the 2010 Group AA, Division 3 State Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Islanders enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the local community, fellow students, parents, and the administration and staff of Poquoson High School during an exciting 2010 football season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Poquoson High School football team on winning the 2010 Group AA, Division 3 state football championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elliott Duty, head coach of the Poquoson High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the team's remarkable season.
