Commending Patricia Washington.

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington, president and chief executive officer of Visit Alexandria, a membership-based organization dedicated to promoting tourism in Alexandria, will retire on June 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington took the helm of Visit Alexandria in 2012 and over her tenure has seen the City of Alexandria increase its revenue through sales, meals, and lodging taxes from $55 million to more than $80 million annually; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington spearheaded a number of collaborative ventures with the City of Alexandria and its Office of Historic Alexandria, such as Visit Alexandria's "Drop In" and "Expand Your ALX" campaigns, which were designed to develop engaging visitor experiences that would market the city to new, diverse audiences; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington steered Visit Alexandria's national media strategy to help the city earn top accolades from a number of prominent publications, including Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, and Southern Living; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington has advanced her industry through her involvement with the U.S. Travel Association's Destinations Council and with the Northern Virginia Tourism Partnership; and

WHEREAS, a devoted arts advocate, Patricia Washington served on the board of the Alexandria Arts Alliance and with Heard, a nonprofit organization that supports underserved children and adults through arts instruction and other services; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Washington's indefatigable efforts have made Alexandria a leading global destination, contributing greatly to the prosperity of the region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Patricia Washington, president and chief executive officer of Visit Alexandria, on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Washington as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her legacy of service and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
