WHEREAS, born in the Bronx, New York, on July 8, 1924, John Rossmann, a resident of the Commonwealth for the last fifty years, will soon be celebrating his 100th birthday; and
WHEREAS, John Rossmann began his service in the United States Army in March 1943; at age 19 and as part of the 1st Army, 4th Infantry Division, he landed on Utah Beach, Normandy, during the Allied campaign in World War II to stop Nazi aggression and free France and Western Europe from Nazi occupation; and
WHEREAS, John Rossmann participated in the infamous hedgerow combat against the Nazis on the 1st Army's advance to Paris; after reaching Paris, he was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force, and ultimately was honorably discharged from military service in March 1946; and
WHEREAS, John Rossmann received a bachelor's degree from New York University in 1956 and thereafter served the United States as a treasury enforcement agent for 21 years, combating counterfeiting and drug trafficking from assigned posts in London, Chicago, Paris, and Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, for his service to his country, John Rossmann was awarded the United States Department of the Treasury's highest career service award, the Albert Gallatin Award; and
WHEREAS, John Rossmann is a patriot, a great American, and an adopted son of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John Rossmann for his dedication to duty and faithful service to the United States and its allies, as well as to the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Rossmann as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to the country and to the Commonwealth.
