HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 109
Commending Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, Inc., on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 2010 Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, Inc., is celebrating its 25th anniversary of bringing outstanding visual arts and culture, music, dance, and theater to the residents and visitors of the Greater Fairfax community and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, Inc., was organized in 1985 with a mission to "shine a spotlight" on existing and emerging arts groups and cultural opportunities in the central Fairfax community; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts has grown from a small weekend initiative to a major collaborative effort of the City of Fairfax, George Mason University, and Northern Virginia Community College, hosting an exciting three-week celebration of the arts in the Greater Fairfax area; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts has sponsored the Spotlight Scholarship Program that has grown to three endowed scholarships in the arts for students attending George Mason University, as well as two additional scholarships, one each for George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College, with a total of 75 scholarships awarded to date; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts has created numerous occasions for new arts groups, such as the Fairfax Art League and the Old Town Performance Series, to gain recognition, and has afforded acclaim and many growth opportunities to existing arts organizations; and

WHEREAS, looking to the future, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts and its enthusiastic supporters will continue their mission to support new, emerging, and existing arts groups in the Greater Fairfax area and provide scholarships to promising, qualified high school seniors; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts and the Greater Fairfax area are a vibrant and integral part of the cultural scene in Virginia and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, Inc., on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude to the organization for its longtime commitment to the celebration of the cherished and diverse arts and culture of the Commonwealth.
