AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations
on February 28, 2024)

A BILL to direct the Department of Corrections to describe current practices for community supervision and to examine processes and practices for developing a program for court modification of time served on probation; report.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. That the Department of Corrections shall meet with all relevant stakeholders, including the Virginia Probation and Parole Association and criminal justice reform organizations, and provide a report to the General Assembly, no later than November 1, 2024, that describes in detail (i) current practices for community supervision as it relates to monitoring engagement and attainment in education, employment, treatment, and other programs and making recommendations to the court for modification of time served on probation and (ii) how such practices compare to the processes and practices that would be established pursuant to Senate Bill No. 80, 2024 Session, as reported by the Senate Committee on Rehabilitation and Social Services.
