Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §54.1-3207 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§54.1-3207. Board of Optometry.
The Board of Optometry shall be composed of six members
as follows: five licensed optometrists and one citizen member. Licensed
optometrists appointed to the Board shall be individuals who [ , at the time
of appointment, ] (i) have been engaged in the practice of optometry for
at least five years [ prior to the date of their appointment
] , (ii) have met all requirements for practice as an optometrist set forth
in this chapter and are qualified to engage in the full scope of the practice
of optometry, and (iii) are actively engaged in the delivery of clinical care to
patients for an average of at least 20 hours per week. The terms of office
of the members shall be four years. The professional members of the Board
shall have been engaged in the practice of optometry for at least five years
prior to the date of their appointment. After July 1, 1996, all professional
members newly appointed to the Board shall be certified in the administration
of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents pursuant to Article 5 (§54.1-3222 et
seq.) of this chapter.
2. That this act shall not be construed to affect existing appointments to the Board of Optometry for which the terms have not expired. The provisions of this act shall apply to appointments to the Board of Optometry made after July 1, 2019.
