Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23.1-609.1 as follows:
§23.1-609.1. Veterans; tuition and mandatory fee waivers.
A. As used in this section, "veteran" has the same meaning as provided in §23.1-500.
B. A veteran is entitled to a waiver of undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for up to 150 credit hours at any public institution of higher education if:
1. He resided in the Commonwealth for at least six months immediately preceding his entrance into service in the Armed Forces of the United States;
2. He served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States for at least one year;
3. He returned to reside in the Commonwealth within six months of his discharge from service in the Armed Forces of the United States; and
4. He resides in the Commonwealth.
