A BILL to amend and reenact §54.1-1133 of the Code of Virginia, relating to Board for Contractors; offering or approving exams; language counterparts.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That §54.1-1133 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§54.1-1133. Continuing education.

A. The Board may establish in the regulations requirements for continuing education as a prerequisite to renewal of any certificate or license issued under this article. The Board shall require evidence of knowledge of code changes as a prerequisite to renewal of any certificate or license issued under this article. In addition, the Board may require continuing education for any individual who is found to be in violation of the statutes or regulations governing the practice of licensed tradesmen or certificate holders issued under this article.

B. Any exam offered by a regulatory board shall be made available in any language that meets the threshold for having election materials printed in that language. To the extent that any exam administered by an entity is approved by a regulatory board and is made available in English, such board shall make reasonable efforts to approve any substantially similar exam that is made available in any language that meets the threshold for having election materials printed in that language pursuant to § 203 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (52 U.S.C. §10503).
