Summary
Sales and use tax; food purchased for human consumption. Phases out over a five-year period the state and local sales and use tax on food purchased for human consumption. Under current law, the local tax rate on food is 1% and the state tax rate on such food is 1.5%, with a 1% tax dedicated to localities based on school age population and the remaining one-half percent tax dedicated to the transportation trust fund. The bill dedicates state sales and use tax revenue to hold harmless localities and the transportation trust fund.
