George E. Freeborn | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of George E. | ||
Freeborn, who died March 15, 2011, at the age of 84; and | ||
WHEREAS, George Freeborn was born on March 13, 1927, in Los | ||
Angeles, California, to Genevieve Helen Lloyd Freeborn and Dr. | ||
Grant Freeborn; he proudly served his country in the United | ||
States Navy Air Corps from 1944 to 1946; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was the founder of TexTek Plastics, | ||
Incorporated, in San Antonio, and served as its chief executive | ||
officer until he sold the company in 1992; he was a pioneer in the | ||
plastics industry, and his innovations were recognized with | ||
awards and are still in use today; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a fellow of the Society of Plastics | ||
Engineers and a past director at large of the Society of the | ||
Plastics Industry; in 1987, he was the recipient of the CIM | ||
Leaders Award presented by Plastics Technology for Pioneering | ||
Computer Integration in Plastics Manufacturing; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was respected for his outstanding | ||
accomplishments and for his leadership in the community; he was a | ||
past president of the North Central Rotary Club and a former | ||
member of the board of directors of the Lighthouse for the Blind; | ||
he was also a member of the board of directors of the Lyric Opera | ||
of San Antonio; and | ||
WHEREAS, A devout man, he was a member of Saint Pius X | ||
Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Alamo Council | ||
4298; he was a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy | ||
Sepulcher; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Freeborn was passionate about world travel | ||
and was an avid photographer and videographer; he also loved | ||
spending time camping, boating, and fishing with his family; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he | ||
gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, | ||
and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, George Freeborn was a devoted husband, father, | ||
and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be | ||
treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of George Freeborn: his beloved wife of 62 years, Tina | ||
Freeborn; his sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Freeborn and Sheryl | ||
and Scott Freeborn; and his grandchildren and | ||
great-grandchildren; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy | ||
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of George E. Freeborn. | ||
