George E. Freeborn |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of George E. |
|
Freeborn, who died March 15, 2011, at the age of 84; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, George Freeborn was born on March 13, 1927, in Los |
|
Angeles, California, to Genevieve Helen Lloyd Freeborn and Dr. |
|
Grant Freeborn; he proudly served his country in the United |
|
States Navy Air Corps from 1944 to 1946; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was the founder of TexTek Plastics, |
|
Incorporated, in San Antonio, and served as its chief executive |
|
officer until he sold the company in 1992; he was a pioneer in the |
|
plastics industry, and his innovations were recognized with |
|
awards and are still in use today; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a fellow of the Society of Plastics |
|
Engineers and a past director at large of the Society of the |
|
Plastics Industry; in 1987, he was the recipient of the CIM |
|
Leaders Award presented by Plastics Technology for Pioneering |
|
Computer Integration in Plastics Manufacturing; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was respected for his outstanding |
|
accomplishments and for his leadership in the community; he was a |
|
past president of the North Central Rotary Club and a former |
|
member of the board of directors of the Lighthouse for the Blind; |
|
he was also a member of the board of directors of the Lyric Opera |
|
of San Antonio; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A devout man, he was a member of Saint Pius X |
|
Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Alamo Council |
|
4298; he was a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy |
|
Sepulcher; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Freeborn was passionate about world travel |
|
and was an avid photographer and videographer; he also loved |
|
spending time camping, boating, and fishing with his family; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he |
|
gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, |
|
and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, George Freeborn was a devoted husband, father, |
|
and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be |
|
treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of George Freeborn: his beloved wife of 62 years, Tina |
|
Freeborn; his sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Freeborn and Sheryl |
|
and Scott Freeborn; and his grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of George E. Freeborn. |
