SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and
  friends of Bob L. Herd of Tyler, who passed away on December 13,
  2019, at the age of 91; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Marion and Mary Frances Herd, Bob Herd
  was born on December 9, 1928, and grew up in Dallas and Scyene
  with four brothers, John, Marvin, Buddy, and David; he graduated
  from Mesquite High School in 1946 and he joined the U.S. Air
  Force, earning the rank of staff sergeant; following his military
  service, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a petroleum
  engineering degree; and
         WHEREAS, In 1959, Mr. Herd married the former Pat Noe, and
  the couple shared a rewarding union that spanned more than a half
  century until her death in 2011; he took great pride in their
  children, Rod, Jeff, Greg, Kelli, and the late Staci Herd, and he
  cherished time spent with their seven grandchildren and nine
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Herd enjoyed a rewarding career in the oil
  and gas industry; in 1965, he moved his family to Tyler, where he
  launched Herd Producing Company, Inc., and eventually operated
  hundreds of oil and gas wells across Louisiana and Texas; in
  honor of his many achievements, he received the Society of
  Petroleum Engineers Pioneer Award and the Texas Tech
  Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Engineer Awards; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to philanthropic causes, Mr. and
  Mrs. Herd together established the Bob L. Herd Foundation, which
  awards college scholarships and which made possible the Herd
  Worship Center at Marvin United Methodist Church, the Pat Herd
  Women's Center at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances
  Hospital-Tyler, and the Herd Family Intensive Care Center at UT
  Health East Texas; in recognition of his exceptional support of
  his alma mater, Texas Tech named the Bob L. Herd Department of
  Petroleum Engineering in his honor in 2008; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for his generous nature, quick wit, and
  joyous zest for life, Bob Herd brightened the world for all who
  were fortunate enough to know him, and they will forever hold him
  close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature,
  3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bob L.
  Herd and extend sincere sympathy to his relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Bob Herd.
