SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9
In Memory
of
Andres Muñiz, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Harlingen in mourning the loss of Andres "Andy"
Muñiz, Jr., who died July 27, 2013, at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, Andy Muñiz, Jr., was born December 4, 1933, to
Andres Muñiz, Sr., and Clemencia Muñiz in Harlingen, and he
graduated from Harlingen High School; and
WHEREAS, Andy shared 35 years of marriage with his loving
wife, Dahlia Zarate-Muñiz; he was the proud father of two
children and had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
who were the source of much joy; and
WHEREAS, A well-known and highly respected civic leader,
Mr. Muñiz received notable recognition for his work with the
Brownsville Housing Authority; during his tenure as board
chairman, the authority was named Best Place to Work by the
Society for Human Resource Management; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman was the recipient of
numerous professional accolades, including commendation for
exemplary work with business, civic, educational, and sports
organizations in Harlingen and Brownsville; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional success, Mr.
Muñiz was a highly regarded golfer; he was a Senior Professional
Golfers' Association golfer in 1990 and a Pan American Golf
Association national senior champion four years later; he was
also honored as a member of the Pan American National Hall of
Fame; and
WHEREAS, Andy Muñiz was beloved by many, and he leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Andres Muñiz, Jr.; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Andy Muñiz, Jr.
