WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize Dian Graves Owen Stai, who was inducted in 2016 into | ||
the Texas Business Hall of Fame; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dian Stai has been a trailblazer over the course of | ||
her distinguished career as a businesswoman; she was the first | ||
chair of the Texas Department of Commerce, the first woman to chair | ||
the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, and the cofounder and first board | ||
chair of Owen Healthcare, Incorporated, one of the premier | ||
hospital pharmacy management companies in the country; and | ||
WHEREAS, Under her exemplary leadership, Owen Healthcare | ||
grew from a company valued at approximately $1 million in 1976 to | ||
a company worth $500 million at the time of its 1997 merger with | ||
Cardinal Health, Incorporated; it had expanded its range of | ||
operations from pharmacy management to include materials | ||
management, home infusion services, automated medication | ||
dispensing systems, and other health care services; and | ||
WHEREAS, After selling the company, she dedicated herself | ||
to addressing social concerns and established the Dian Graves | ||
Owen Foundation, a philanthropic organization that has | ||
distributed more than $85 million to various institutions and | ||
worthy projects; her many accolades include being named the 1992 | ||
Houston Regional Entrepreneur of the Year by the Women's Support | ||
Business Network and receiving national recognition on multiple | ||
occasions as one of the top 25 businesswomen in America by | ||
Working Woman and Savvy magazines; she was a 1996 inductee into | ||
the Texas Women's Hall of Fame; and | ||
WHEREAS, She has served on the boards of such organizations | ||
as the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, the United Way of | ||
Abilene, Saint John's Episcopal School, and the Texas Chamber of | ||
Commerce, and it is truly fitting that she receive special | ||
recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby commend Dian Graves Owen Stai on her | ||
outstanding achievements and extend congratulations to her on her | ||
induction into the Texas Business Hall of Fame; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
