WHEREAS, On December 17, 2016, the Lake Travis High School | ||
Cavaliers achieved an extraordinary feat in the chronicles of Texas | ||
high school football by winning their sixth state championship with | ||
a victory in the University Interscholastic League 6A Division 1 | ||
title game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington; and | ||
WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Hank Carter, the Cavaliers | ||
finished with a 15-1 record and have a remarkable 91-10 record in | ||
the past seven seasons; the team's march to the 2016 state | ||
championship included postseason victories over a series of | ||
talented opponents, including San Antonio Madison, Smithson | ||
Valley, Los Fresnos, Austin Westlake, and Atascocita; and | ||
WHEREAS, In the championship contest against The Woodlands | ||
Highlanders, a superb performance by the entire Lake Travis team | ||
led to a resounding 41-13 victory; led by quarterback Charlie | ||
Brewer and a swarming defense, the Cavaliers dominated The | ||
Woodlands in every phase of the game; the Cavalier defense held the | ||
Highlander offense to 33 points below their season average; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Brewer completed 27 of 37 passes for 361 yards | ||
and four touchdowns, earning distinction as Offensive Player of | ||
the Game as well as a spot in the National Federation of State | ||
High School Associations record book after connecting on a single | ||
season best 77.6 percent of his passes; senior linebacker Aidan | ||
Estrada was named the Defensive Player of the Game after leading | ||
Lake Travis with seven tackles and one interception; and | ||
WHEREAS, With its sixth state championship, Lake Travis | ||
has staked its claim as one of the finest squads in the storied | ||
history of high school football in the Lone Star State, and this | ||
achievement will be a continuing source of pride for the athletes | ||
and their many loyal supporters; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby congratulate the Lake Travis High School | ||
football team on winning the 2016 UIL 6A Division 1 state | ||
championship and extend to the team's players, managers, trainers, | ||
coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success. | ||
