WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to | ||
a close with the passing of Dr. C. Garth Cline of Panola on | ||
August 13, 2023, at the age of 97; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Harry and Era Cline, Garth Cline was born | ||
in Center on December 24, 1925; he graduated from Louisiana State | ||
University and went on to obtain a doctor of veterinary medicine | ||
degree from Auburn University; answering his nation's call to duty, | ||
he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dr. Cline practiced veterinary medicine in | ||
Shreveport, Louisiana, for many years and concluded his six-decade | ||
working career with the Louisiana State Racing Commission at | ||
Louisiana Downs; following his retirement, he eventually returned | ||
to Texas; he was an active member of Robert A. Tompkins Masonic | ||
Lodge No. 1254 in Waskom, where he served several terms as | ||
Worshipful Master, and he was a longtime Worshipful Patron for the | ||
local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; he was also involved | ||
in Marshall Masonic Lodge No. 22 AF & AM; among his many | ||
achievements, he received the 32nd degree in both York and Scottish | ||
Rites; in addition, he was designated a Shriner with the Sharon | ||
temple in Tyler, and he served as district deputy Grand Master of | ||
the Grand Lodge of Texas District 10 for two years; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of faith, Dr. Cline was a devoted member of | ||
Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school; during | ||
his retirement years, he enjoyed working on his farm and spending | ||
time with his loved ones; he was also an avid supporter of the | ||
Jacket Nation sports teams of the Elysian Fields Independent School | ||
District; and | ||
WHEREAS, Garth Cline lived a caring and purposeful life | ||
centered around his family and his community, and he will long be | ||
remembered with deep affection by all who knew him; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 4th | ||
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. C. Garth | ||
Cline and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to | ||
his children, Chuck Cline and his wife, Debra, and Georgia Pounders | ||
and her husband, Mike; to his grandchildren, Gary Cline and his | ||
wife, Liz, Brittany Childs and her husband, Matt, Leslie Thurman | ||
and her husband, Brandon, and Ashley Pounders; to his | ||
great-grandchildren; to his "adopted" son, Randy "RT" Mitchell and | ||
his wife, Melissa; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Dr. C. Garth Cline. |
