WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize United States Army Lieutenant General William B. | ||
Caldwell IV for his exceptional service to the nation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Caldwell began his career in | ||
military service as a cadet at the United States Military Academy | ||
at West Point; he was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1976 | ||
with a bachelor's degree in engineering; he went on to earn | ||
master's degrees from the United States Naval Postgraduate | ||
School and the School for Advanced Military Studies and to study | ||
at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard | ||
University; and | ||
WHEREAS, Currently commander of United States Army North | ||
and senior commander of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, General | ||
Caldwell has held a variety of important posts, most recently as | ||
commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training | ||
Mission-Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition | ||
Command-Afghanistan; his responsibilities included overseeing | ||
the establishment of a legitimate, sustainable, and effective | ||
Afghan National Security Force; and | ||
WHEREAS, He served as deputy chief of staff for Strategic | ||
Effects during Operation Iraqi Freedom; he has also served as | ||
commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division and of the | ||
United States Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth; his | ||
many decorations and citations include the Defense Distinguished | ||
Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, | ||
and the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Caldwell has served the United | ||
States Army with courage and distinction, and it is truly fitting | ||
that he be recognized for his role in defending the nation's | ||
security and ideals; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, | ||
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Lieutenant General William B. | ||
Caldwell IV on his exemplary service to the nation and extend to | ||
him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. | ||
