R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Valley View joined together on
  March 26, 2022, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding
  of their community; and
         WHEREAS, Situated on the rolling prairie of North Texas, the
  region was first settled by the Lee family in 1870, and in 1872,
  L. W. Lee laid out a townsite and named it Valley View, for its
  vista of the Spring Creek valley; that same year, a post office was
  established in the community, and the following year, a blacksmith
  shop was opened that also served as the town's first school; by
  1884, the town had 250 people, three gristmills and cotton gins, and
  three general stores, and in 1886, it became a stop on the Gulf,
  Colorado and Santa Fe Railway; and
         WHEREAS, By 1890, there were four churches and a hotel in
  Valley View; a school district was incorporated in 1902, and the
  following year a two-story, brick schoolhouse was built, as well as
  six new business buildings, a bank, and a telephone exchange; in
  1904, a weekly newspaper, the Valley View News, began publishing;
  the town survived two serious fires in 1924, including one started
  by bank robbers, which burned down two city blocks; the town was
  incorporated in 1980, and today it is a dynamic community of more
  than 900 residents; and
         WHEREAS, On the occasion of the town's 150th birthday, the
  citizens of Valley View hosted a celebration featuring country
  music performances, gunfighter shows, square dancing, a display of
  antique tractors, and the crowning of the Valley View king and
  queen; and
         WHEREAS, Paying tribute to their rich and colorful history as
  they work together to build a bright future, the people of Valley
  View may indeed take great pride in the role their community plays
  in the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
  hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Valley
  View and extend to the community's citizens and guests sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the City of Valley View as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas Senate.
