WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
recognize the representatives of the Johnson Space Center who are | ||
visiting Austin on the occasion of NASA Space Day at the State | ||
Capitol, which is being celebrated March 19, 2013; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Johnson Space Center has played a vital role | ||
in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's intrepid | ||
explorations of space and important scientific discoveries, | ||
which have for decades inspired and benefited the people of our | ||
nation and state; and | ||
WHEREAS, NASA has long led the nations of the world in | ||
space exploration and aeronautical technology; the Johnson Space | ||
Center is pioneering the development of America's deep space | ||
vehicle, Orion, and maximizing the use of the International Space | ||
Station for research purposes; and | ||
WHEREAS, Among its other functions are the research and | ||
development that are so vital to future space exploration, along | ||
with the formation of partnerships to advance commercial crew and | ||
cargo capabilities; and | ||
WHEREAS, Over the past half century, NASA innovations have | ||
helped to ensure the national security of the United States, as | ||
well as the safety of its individual citizens; and | ||
WHEREAS, Breakthroughs by NASA scientists have even | ||
revolutionized American health care; because of these | ||
achievements, today's medical professionals have access to | ||
technologies such as computerized axial tomography scans, | ||
magnetic resonance imaging, fetal monitors, and programmable | ||
heart pacemakers; and | ||
WHEREAS, | ||
WHEREAS, NASA and the Johnson Space Center help drive our | ||
state's dynamic economy and generate a highly skilled work force | ||
for Texas and the rest of the world; the agency employs more than | ||
3,100 civil servants and some 10,000 contractor personnel at the | ||
Johnson Space Center; it also awards $4.9 billion worth of NASA | ||
contracts annually; and | ||
WHEREAS, Such extraordinary contributions have made NASA a | ||
revered institution the world over, and the Johnson Space | ||
Center's essential role in these achievements has long been a | ||
source of pride for all Texans; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
the Johnson Space Center as an expression of high regard from the | ||
Texas Senate. | ||
