A'Lethea Norman Williams | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of A'Lethea Norman Williams, who died April | ||
12, 2013, at the age of 83; and | ||
WHEREAS, A'Lethea Williams was born February 23, 1930, in | ||
Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated from Central High School and | ||
was a member of Zion Baptist Church; she moved to Chicago in 1950 | ||
and worked for Ford Aircraft before opening Chick-a-Dees Day | ||
Nursery; and | ||
WHEREAS, She married Lucious Williams in 1955, and the | ||
couple raised a daughter, Evalynn Alberta Williams; the family | ||
moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1968 and operated a string of | ||
Weight Losers International franchises; she went on to become a | ||
licensed real estate broker and for years was a | ||
multimillion-dollar producer; she made it possible for countless | ||
African American families to own a home, and she served as a | ||
mentor to many in the profession; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was active in political affairs and | ||
served on President Jimmy Carter's Advisory Commission on | ||
Agriculture; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit, | ||
and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be | ||
forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family, and she leaves | ||
behind memories that will be treasured forever by all those who | ||
were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of A'Lethea Norman Williams; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of A'Lethea Norman Williams. | ||
