	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 364
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
	recognize Southwest Early College High School, which is hosting a
	2019 Lunar New Year Festival and celebrating the Year of the Hog
	on February 8; and

	WHEREAS, Students at Southwest Early College High School,
	of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, are
	hosting a Lunar New Year Festival as part of International Week;
	beginning February 5, students will participate in a variety of
	interactive, hands-on workshops designed to introduce them to
	the cultures of Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East; and

	WHEREAS, Southwest Early College High School has earned a
	reputation for excellence for its strong dual-language model,
	and it has recently introduced Mandarin Chinese as its third
	campus language; the high school is currently working in
	partnership with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to
	further promote international and foreign language studies; and

	WHEREAS, International Week promises to be both informative
	and entertaining and will culminate with the much-anticipated
	Lunar New Year Festival; members of the community are invited to
	join in the week's festivities and the February 8 celebration,
	which will include music and an array of Asian-related
	performances; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
	Legislature, hereby commend Southwest Early College High
	School for its focus on foreign language studies and for
	promoting a broader understanding of global cultures and
	extend to all best wishes for a memorable 2019 Lunar New Year
	Festival; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
	the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
