Kathy Rae Knight | ||
WHEREAS, Kathy Rae Knight of Sonora passed away on April | ||
29, 2023, at the age of 79, leaving behind a loving family and | ||
many dear friends to cherish her memory; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of South Gate, California, the former | ||
Kathy Rae Geesee was born on October 4, 1943, to Kenneth and Wanda | ||
Geesee; she grew up with the companionship of four siblings, | ||
Nancy, Richard, Jerry, and Phyllis, and she graduated in 1962 | ||
from Pleasanton High School, where she was the head cheerleader | ||
during her senior year; and | ||
WHEREAS, After marrying the love of her life, Rodney | ||
Knight, Mrs. Knight moved to Sonora when her husband accepted an | ||
assignment as a game warden for Sutton County in 1972; she worked | ||
for a time at Westerman's Drug Store before beginning a long | ||
career at the Lillian M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital; she played | ||
an instrumental role in the operation of the hospital throughout | ||
her employment, and after she retired as its assistant | ||
administrator, she sold homemade jewelry through her shop, | ||
Kathy's Jewelry & Gifts; she shared 46 years of marriage with | ||
Mr. Knight until his passing; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. Knight was deeply devoted to her five | ||
children, Joe, Debbie, Betsy, Edie, and Lonnie; she also took | ||
immense pride in her 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, | ||
and she enjoyed having the opportunity to impart her baking | ||
skills on her children and grandchildren; over the years, she | ||
made many fond memories during family vacations to Florida, New | ||
York, Michigan, and locations all across Texas, and she further | ||
demonstrated her adventurousness by taking road trips to casinos | ||
in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Kathy Rae Knight will be deeply missed, | ||
she will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those who | ||
were blessed to share in the warmth of her affection; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Kathy Rae Knight and extend sincere sympathy to the members of | ||
her family: to her children, Joe Shannon and his wife, Tammy, | ||
Debbie Norment and her husband, Darold, Betsy Knight, Edie | ||
Knight, and Lonnie Knight and his wife, Honey; to her | ||
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to her siblings, Nancy | ||
Jones and her husband, Roger, and Richard Geesee and his wife, | ||
Donna; to her brother-in-law, Kurtney Knight, and his wife, Fran; | ||
to her numerous nieces and nephews; and to her other relatives | ||
and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
this day, it do so in memory of Kathy Rae Knight. | ||
