| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. (a) The State Board of Education shall conduct | ||
| a study to determine, for kindergarten through 12th grade, the | ||
| length of the instructional day and of the academic year that would | ||
| be necessary to allow for the completion of the required curriculum | ||
| identified by the board under Section 28.002, Education Code. | ||
| (b) Not later than October 1, 2018, the board shall deliver | ||
| a report containing the results of the study to the governor and the | ||
| legislature. | ||
| (c) This Act expires September 1, 2019. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect only if a specific | ||
| appropriation for the implementation of the Act is provided in a | ||
| general appropriations act of the 85th Legislature. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
