WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2011 | ||
are visiting the State Capitol on March 16, 2011, to gain further | ||
insight into the workings of state government; and | ||
WHEREAS, An initiative of the communities of southwest Dallas | ||
County, Leadership Southwest had 23 participants in its inaugural | ||
class of 1985, and over the ensuing 26 years it has graduated more | ||
than 800 civic-minded individuals; the organization is a | ||
cooperative effort sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, | ||
Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce that | ||
works to develop tomorrow's leaders and inspire the spirit of | ||
activism for the public good; and | ||
WHEREAS, The nine-month program involves exposure to | ||
critical issues facing the community and instruction from leaders | ||
on topics such as education, law enforcement, the arts, government, | ||
economic growth, health, and transportation; many participants go | ||
on to serve their fellow Texans on boards of schools, hospitals, and | ||
other institutions or through elected offices; and | ||
WHEREAS, Endeavoring to foster a more informed and involved | ||
citizenry and to develop new leaders, the program is helping to | ||
build a brighter and more prosperous future for the Lone Star State; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby welcome members of the Leadership Southwest | ||
Class of 2011 to the State Capitol and extend to all participants | ||
sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Leadership Southwest as an expression of high regard | ||
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
