R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Leadership Southwest Class of 2011 |
|
are visiting the State Capitol on March 16, 2011, to gain further |
|
insight into the workings of state government; and |
|
WHEREAS, An initiative of the communities of southwest Dallas |
|
County, Leadership Southwest had 23 participants in its inaugural |
|
class of 1985, and over the ensuing 26 years it has graduated more |
|
than 800 civic-minded individuals; the organization is a |
|
cooperative effort sponsored by the Cedar Hill, DeSoto, |
|
Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce that |
|
works to develop tomorrow's leaders and inspire the spirit of |
|
activism for the public good; and |
|
WHEREAS, The nine-month program involves exposure to |
|
critical issues facing the community and instruction from leaders |
|
on topics such as education, law enforcement, the arts, government, |
|
economic growth, health, and transportation; many participants go |
|
on to serve their fellow Texans on boards of schools, hospitals, and |
|
other institutions or through elected offices; and |
|
WHEREAS, Endeavoring to foster a more informed and involved |
|
citizenry and to develop new leaders, the program is helping to |
|
build a brighter and more prosperous future for the Lone Star State; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome members of the Leadership Southwest |
|
Class of 2011 to the State Capitol and extend to all participants |
|
sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Leadership Southwest as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
