WHEREAS, Chuck Davidson of Houston has made a positive and | ||
lasting difference in his community through his contributions as a | ||
teacher, as a volunteer, and as a caring citizen; and | ||
WHEREAS, This native New Yorker arrived in the Lone Star | ||
State in 1968 to perform community work for the Presbyterian | ||
church; four years later, he embarked on his career in education at | ||
Ashford Elementary School, where he taught many young Texans over | ||
the course of a tenure that spanned three decades; in addition to | ||
his duties in the classroom, Mr. Davidson coached softball and | ||
participated in numerous school activities, and along the way he | ||
earned a master's degree from Houston Baptist University; and | ||
WHEREAS, A resident of the Spring Branch community since | ||
1976, Mr. Davidson began volunteering at Spring Woods High School | ||
after his retirement from teaching in 2000; he contributed his time | ||
and talents to work with the school's sporting events, senior class | ||
activities, and athletic and band booster clubs; moreover, he | ||
created the Spring Branch Independent School District Good Neighbor | ||
program, which recognizes those individuals, businesses, and | ||
organizations that actively support local schools; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Davidson also played an instrumental role in the | ||
creation of the Spring Branch North Super Neighborhood initiative, | ||
and in his role as president of that organization, he acted as a | ||
liaison between city officials and area residents; he served in a | ||
leadership role with the Spring Shadows Civic Association as well, | ||
and he is a valued member of the Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, | ||
where he is an elder and the head of the Service Ministry team; a | ||
charter member and former president of the Houston Northwest Lions | ||
Club, he oversaw the collection of more than 27,000 pairs of | ||
eyeglasses for distribution to the disadvantaged; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Davidson enjoys the | ||
love and support of his wife, Beverly, with whom he has shared 37 | ||
years, and he takes great pride in their children, Ronald, | ||
Christina, Alexa, and Vera, as well as in their five grandchildren | ||
and two great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Chuck Davidson has contributed to his fellow | ||
citizens through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and in so | ||
doing, he has set an inspiring example of civic engagement, | ||
leadership, and generosity; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Chuck Davidson for | ||
his outstanding service to his community and extend to him sincere | ||
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Davidson as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. |
