WHEREAS, Dr. Denise M. Trauth retired as president of Texas | ||
State University on May 31, 2022, drawing to a close nearly two | ||
decades of outstanding service to the university; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Trauth became the first woman to serve | ||
as president of Texas State, and she skillfully guided the school | ||
through a period of unprecedented growth; she oversaw the | ||
establishment of the Wittliff Collections, the Ingram School of | ||
Engineering, and the Science, Technology, and Advanced Research | ||
(STAR) Park; she also oversaw the school's greatest construction | ||
boom since its founding in 1899, including four new residence | ||
halls, a new performing arts building, the Bruce and Gloria Ingram | ||
Hall on the San Marcos campus, and the Avery Building, St. David's | ||
School of Nursing, and Willow Hall on the Round Rock campus; under | ||
her leadership, Texas State became a member of the NCAA Division I | ||
FBS Western Athletic Conference and earned a designation as a Texas | ||
Emerging Research University; and | ||
WHEREAS, Denise Trauth earned her master's degree from | ||
The Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of | ||
Iowa, and she previously served as provost and vice chancellor for | ||
academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; | ||
she has contributed to the Central Texas community as president of | ||
the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the Austin Area Research | ||
Organization, among others, and her many awards include the Ohtli | ||
Award from the government of Mexico and the Women of Distinction | ||
Award from the Girl Scouts; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Trauth has enjoyed the | ||
love and support of her husband, Dr. John Huffman, as well as that | ||
of her two daughters, four grandchildren, and three | ||
great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Denise Trauth's vision, expertise, and commitment | ||
to excellence have greatly benefited Texas State University and | ||
earned her the respect and admiration of its staff, students, and | ||
alumni, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her record of | ||
achievement; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Denise M. Trauth on her | ||
retirement from Texas State University and extend to her sincere | ||
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Dr. Trauth as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
