WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to | ||
a close with the passing of Mark Barry Rogers of Boerne on | ||
October 14, 2023, at the age of 70; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of Stanley and Judith Rogers, "Buck" Rogers | ||
was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 16, 1952, and grew up | ||
with his siblings, Paul and Jane; he earned his bachelor's degree in | ||
international affairs from the United States Air Force Academy in | ||
1975; commissioned as a second lieutenant, he was a fighter pilot | ||
from 1975 to 2001; he deployed in support of Operations Desert | ||
Shield and Desert Storm, and while serving as commander of the 492nd | ||
Fighter Squadron, he flew combat missions in support of Operation | ||
Deny Flight; he became commander of the 35th Operations Group in | ||
1996 and attained the rank of colonel before his retirement in 2001; | ||
he then embarked on a second career with FedEx as a pilot and first | ||
officer, flying until 2017; and | ||
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Mr. Rogers was a member | ||
of the Kendall County Appraisal District Board and was honored as | ||
chair emeritus; he volunteered in support of Boerne ISD schools, | ||
and he was very involved in the Kendall County Republican Party, | ||
serving in the roles of treasurer, chair, and election judge and | ||
leading voter registration, outreach, and turnout campaigns; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers shared a fulfilling relationship with | ||
his wife, Suzie, and he was the proud father of two daughters, Megan | ||
and Jennifer, and a son, Michael; through the years, the family grew | ||
to include his son-in-law, Adam, his daughter-in-law, Jessica, and | ||
his grandchildren, Emilee, Madeline, Wyatt, Paige, Luke, and Chase; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, An avid golfer, Mr. Rogers played the game around | ||
the world and delighted in reconnecting with friends and | ||
challenging himself on unfamiliar courses; in addition, he was a | ||
voracious reader and an enthusiastic singer, although his military | ||
precision did not always extend to the realm of pitch; he | ||
appreciated fine wine, a good cigar, and a glass of scotch, and his | ||
sense of humor and joie de vivre endeared him to innumerable people; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, While the death of Buck Rogers has brought great | ||
sorrow to all who were privileged to share in the richness of his | ||
life, they will continue to find inspiration in his devotion to his | ||
family, his community, and his country; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
of Mark Barry "Buck" Rogers and extend sincere condolences to his | ||
loved ones; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Buck | ||
Rogers. |
