WHEREAS, Since 1991, the Caring for Children Foundation of | ||
Texas has worked to provide free and low-cost access to primary and | ||
preventive health care to the uninsured and medically underserved | ||
children of Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, From 1991 through 1997, the Caring for Children | ||
Program addressed the needs of more than 8,000 uninsured Texas | ||
children for well and sick care physician visits, outpatient | ||
surgeries, lab tests, and prescription medicines; and | ||
WHEREAS, The foundation went on to launch the Care Van | ||
Program in 1997 to help expand access to immunizations; | ||
collaborating with local health departments, immunization | ||
coalitions, and volunteers, the Care Van fleet visits schools, | ||
churches, restaurants, shopping malls, and community events, and to | ||
date, the program has provided over 1.3 million immunizations to | ||
more than 850,000 children in need; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2008, the Care Van Program established an oral | ||
health initiative in partnership with the Texas Department of State | ||
Health Services and local health departments and organizations; to | ||
date, over 275,000 economically underprivileged children have been | ||
able to receive basic dental exams and dental sealants; and | ||
WHEREAS, These vital efforts are made possible through the | ||
support of the foundation's primary statewide sponsor, Blue Cross | ||
Blue Shield of Texas, which covers 100 percent of the foundation's | ||
administrative expenses; and | ||
WHEREAS, For a quarter of a century, the Caring for Children | ||
Foundation of Texas has helped to connect our state's most | ||
vulnerable young residents with essential health services, and in | ||
so doing, it has helped to shape a brighter future for all Texans; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the Caring for Children Foundation | ||
of Texas on its 25th anniversary and extend to all those associated | ||
with the foundation sincere best wishes for continued success with | ||
their important work; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the Caring for Children Foundation of Texas as an | ||
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
