R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Brazoria
  gathered on September 13, 2014, to celebrate both the 101st
  anniversary of the church's founding and the dedication of an
  official Texas Historical Marker from the Texas Historical
  Commission; and
         WHEREAS, First Presbyterian Church was established in 1913 by
  the Reverend J. C. Johnson, an evangelist for Brazos Presbytery,
  and 11 charter members; the congregation first held services at
  Smith's Store in downtown Brazoria and in 1916 moved into a new
  sanctuary built at the corner of Louisiana and Virginia Streets;
  and
         WHEREAS, In the decades since, First Presbyterian has
  flourished, and the church has made many renovations to its
  original building to accommodate its burgeoning membership; the
  congregation has also expanded its reach by supporting numerous
  missions across the globe; and
         WHEREAS, This venerable house of worship has benefited from
  the dedicated efforts of many outstanding clergy members, including
  its current pastor, the Reverend Debbie Measells; moreover, a
  number of members of the congregation today are descendants of the
  first families to join the church; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of more than a century, the First
  Presbyterian Church of Brazoria has served as a source of
  inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its
  continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of
  its members, both past and present; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 101st anniversary of the First
  Presbyterian Church of Brazoria and congratulate its members and
  clergy on the dedication of a Texas Historical Marker; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
