WHEREAS, High school students from across the Lone Star State | ||
are gathering in Austin on February 14, 2011, for Texas SkillsUSA | ||
Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
WHEREAS, Texas SkillsUSA is a nonprofit organization that | ||
encourages students in trade and industry education to develop | ||
essential skills such as communication and teamwork while also | ||
gaining a competitive edge in the job market; teachers benefit as | ||
well by enhancing their occupational education programs and gaining | ||
local business support and participation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Founded in 1948, Texas SkillsUSA now has more than | ||
1,000 chapters at public and trade/technical schools and serves | ||
over 15,000 student and professional members who are enrolled in | ||
trade, technical, industrial, and health occupation programs; the | ||
organization helps coordinate the efforts of educators, | ||
administrators, corporations, labor organizations, trade | ||
associations, and government agencies in order to meet the nation's | ||
need for a globally competitive, educated, and skilled workforce; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Taking part in Texas SkillsUSA Day are seven of the | ||
organization's officers; Austin Scarborough of Duncanville High | ||
School is the state president and is enrolled in the Career and | ||
Technical Education engineering program, and C. J. DeHart of | ||
Westwood High School in Austin is the state secretary and is in the | ||
CTE graphic design program; the other officers are all in the CTE | ||
criminal justice program; Gabby Espinosa of the Townview Law Magnet | ||
School in Dallas is state vice president, Jaime Jimenez, also from | ||
the Townview Law Magnet School, is the state parliamentarian, Marco | ||
Cavazos of Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville is the state | ||
historian, Cristina Lopez, who also attends Homer Hanna High | ||
School, is the state reporter, and Samantha Allen of New Braunfels | ||
High School is the state treasurer; and | ||
WHEREAS, These fine young Texans are doing an exceptional job | ||
of furthering the mission of Texas SkillsUSA, and this beneficial | ||
organization is indeed deserving of praise for its success in | ||
preparing young people to become productive members of the | ||
workforce; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby recognize February 14, 2011, as Texas SkillsUSA | ||
Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation | ||
sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful visit to Austin. |
