WHEREAS, Georgetown Police Chief Cory Tchida received the | ||
Citizen of the Year award from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce | ||
during its annual gala on January 26, 2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, Each year, the chamber recognizes individuals and | ||
businesses for their outstanding achievements and for their efforts | ||
to benefit the local community; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cory Tchida has served as Georgetown police chief | ||
since June 2022, when he was promoted from interim chief; a member | ||
of the Georgetown Police Department for more than a quarter | ||
century, he began his career as a patrol officer and spent a decade | ||
working as a sergeant, with oversight of patrol, training, traffic, | ||
and narcotics; he subsequently became lieutenant of patrol and | ||
administration and assisted in the restructuring of the | ||
department's firearms training program; and | ||
WHEREAS, Highly respected for his exceptional leadership and | ||
community-building skills, Chief Tchida has garnered numerous | ||
accolades, including the 2015 Georgetown Police Chief's Award and | ||
the 2013 City of Georgetown's Manager of the Year Award; he has | ||
further distinguished himself through his active involvement in the | ||
wider community and has made presentations to Citizen Police | ||
Academy classes, citizens' groups, and fellow peace officers; | ||
moreover, he is a longtime board member of Court Appointed Special | ||
Advocates of Williamson County; he holds a bachelor's degree from | ||
The University of Texas and a master's degree in criminal justice | ||
leadership and management from Sam Houston State University, and he | ||
is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff | ||
and Command and of the FBI National Academy; and | ||
WHEREAS, Cory Tchida has demonstrated a lasting commitment to | ||
making Georgetown a better place for all, and in so doing, he has | ||
earned the deep respect and appreciation of his fellow residents; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Cory Tchida on his receipt of | ||
the 2022 Citizen of the Year award from the Georgetown Chamber of | ||
Commerce and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Chief Tchida as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
