WHEREAS, The Greenway Parks neighborhood is celebrating the | ||
Fourth of July in Stemmons Park in 2011, and this occasion provides | ||
a fitting opportunity to recognize the notable history of this | ||
prominent Dallas community; and | ||
WHEREAS, Designed in 1927, the Greenway Parks neighborhood | ||
comprises about 150 acres and is home to 300 families; it is located | ||
three miles north of downtown Dallas and was one of the city's first | ||
pedestrian-oriented planned communities; architecturally, it | ||
encompasses the styles of seven decades, including romantic | ||
revival, postwar, ranch, and European-inspired houses, and in 2003 | ||
it became a recognized conservation district; named one of the | ||
state's 25 Best Places by the Texas Society of Architects, the | ||
neighborhood inspires great pride and loyalty among its residents, | ||
and many houses are passed down from one generation to the next; and | ||
WHEREAS, Greenway Parks got its start when F. N. Drane, a | ||
Corsicana investor, and J. P. Stephenson, a Dallas entrepreneur, | ||
purchased the tract of land and hired architect David Williams to | ||
design the development; Mr. Williams utilized an "English Commons" | ||
pattern in which houses are clustered around a series of open, | ||
private parkways, and the neighborhood incorporates two triangular | ||
neighborhood parks and eight shared greenbelts; and | ||
WHEREAS, Greenway Parks was incorporated into the City of | ||
Dallas in 1942; through the years, it has prospered as a result of | ||
its central location and the successful efforts of its homeowners | ||
association to preserve its beauty and architectural integrity; | ||
today, the association is led by president Hale Hoak, and its other | ||
officers are Lanay Hartmann, Robey Clark, Jeff Partridge, Nancy | ||
Holloway, Ethan Underwood, and Taylor Wilson; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Greenway Parks Fourth of July celebration is a | ||
highly anticipated event that brings together patriotic neighbors | ||
with a shared love of country and community, and it is indeed a | ||
pleasure to pay tribute to this vibrant part of Dallas and to those | ||
who call it home; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2011 Fourth | ||
of July celebration in the Greenway Parks neighborhood of Dallas | ||
and recognize the rich history of this important community; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the Greenway Parks Home Owners Association as an | ||
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
