WHEREAS, Melissa Garza has been named the 2011 Elementary | ||
Teacher of the Year by the Mission Consolidated Independent School | ||
District; and | ||
WHEREAS, A fourth-grade teacher at Carl C. Waitz Elementary | ||
School, Melissa Garza holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with | ||
a minor in dance education and earned a bilingual teaching | ||
certification through the Rio Grande Valley Alternative | ||
Certification for Teachers program; she was a substitute teacher | ||
for three years in the Mission CISD and taught fourth grade in the | ||
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD for a year before returning to Mission in | ||
2007; and | ||
WHEREAS, Viewing her work as an opportunity to inspire and | ||
motivate young people, Ms. Garza emphasizes the importance of | ||
making good choices and strives to reward students for growth and | ||
accomplishments; she keeps up with the latest advances in | ||
educational research by attending numerous development and | ||
training sessions, and she is currently enrolled in a master's | ||
program in educational leadership; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Garza comes from a musical family and has worked | ||
as a choreographer for two decades; she uses songs, dances, and | ||
short skits in her lessons and has assisted with Christmas pageants | ||
and contributed to other musical projects, including recording a | ||
song that became a motivational tool for the entire school; and | ||
WHEREAS, In her role as a team leader, Ms. Garza mentors other | ||
teachers and helps administrators with various undertakings; she | ||
also gives back to her fellow citizens through involvement in the | ||
Random Acts of Kindness ministry of The Family Church in McAllen; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession and committed to her | ||
students, Melissa Garza has set an inspiring example for the young | ||
people of Mission, and she is indeed worthy of special recognition; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Melissa Garza on her selection as | ||
the 2011 Mission Consolidated Independent School District | ||
Elementary Teacher of the Year and extend to her sincere best wishes | ||
for continued success with her important work; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
