WHEREAS, Members of the Irving Heritage Society and the local | ||
community are gathering on May 22, 2011, to celebrate the | ||
dedication of a historical marker at the Heritage Park depot; and | ||
WHEREAS, The expansion of the Rock Island Railroad played a | ||
vital role in Irving's development, and a rail depot was one of the | ||
first buildings established in the town; though the original is no | ||
longer standing, the Heritage Society worked to acquire and restore | ||
a similar structure, which served as the station for the cities of | ||
Clinton and Nevada during the late 1890s and early 1900s; and | ||
WHEREAS, Located in Heritage Park, the facility was dedicated | ||
in memory of Irving's early settlers in November 1988; the | ||
initiative was made possible in part by the efforts of Pete | ||
Fernandez, Carol Susat, Marge Parrish, George Edwin, Peggy Duvall, | ||
Donald Peck, Catherine Schulze, Robert Sale, Earle Ayles, Jim | ||
Dunkley, Jim and May Tom Ripp, and Billie Myers; and | ||
WHEREAS, Today, the Heritage Park depot is a popular local | ||
attraction for residents and visitors alike, and the placement of a | ||
historical marker will help to preserve Irving's rich history as a | ||
railroad town; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the historical | ||
marker at the Heritage Park depot and commend the members of the | ||
Irving Heritage Society for bringing this project to fruition; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
