R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Gilberto Trejo of Rio Grande City on April 23, 2020, at
  the age of 88; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Cosme Trejo and Rosenda Molina, Gilberto
  Trejo was born in Mission on June 18, 1931; he lost his parents at an
  early age and was raised by his grandmother, Beatriz Garza, and his
  uncle, Viterbo Molina; coming of age during the Korean War, he
  enlisted in the U.S. Army, and near the end of the conflict, he and
  his platoon were held captive for several months; he subsequently
  endured a long convalescence in the hospital; highly decorated for
  his bravery, he attained the rank of master sergeant; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Trejo went on to work as a building contractor
  for two decades, and after completing his bachelor's degree in
  mathematics at Texas A&M University, he taught in the Rio Grande
  City Consolidated Independent School District for 28 years; deeply
  patriotic, he was commander of local Disabled American Veterans and
  Veterans of Foreign War posts and led hundreds of burial ceremonies
  for Starr County veterans; in 2013, the Korean War Marker located at
  the county courthouse annex was dedicated to him, honoring his
  heroism and service; and
         WHEREAS, In 1955, Mr. Trejo married the former Ernestina
  Hernandez, and they raised six children, Gilberto, Evangelina,
  Adalberto, Baudilia, Heberto, and Humberto; eventually, their
  treasured family grew to include 16 grandchildren and 16
  great-grandchildren; Mr. Trejo provided a beautiful soundtrack for
  all their lives, playing guitar and singing Latin ballads in his
  free time; in retirement, he enjoyed applying his math skills to the
  lottery and attending senior center activities with his wife; and
         WHEREAS, Gilberto Trejo was a brave soldier, a caring husband
  and father, and a leader in his community, and the contributions he
  made in each of these roles will long inspire all those who were
  fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gilberto Trejo and
  extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gilberto
  Trejo.
