WHEREAS, Taylor Nunez of Randolph High School in Universal | ||
City achieved great distinction by winning four gold medals at the | ||
2023 University Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in | ||
Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 11, Ms. Nunez | ||
captured three of her gold medals in individual events; she set | ||
Class 3A state meet records in the long jump by soaring 20 feet, 2.5 | ||
inches, as well as in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44 | ||
seconds, breaking the meet mark she set at last year's competition; | ||
moreover, she won the 200 meters with a blistering time of 23.42 | ||
seconds, which would have resulted in another record had it not been | ||
ruled to be aided by the wind; and | ||
WHEREAS, In the 400-meter relay, Ms. Nunez ran the anchor leg | ||
for the Randolph squad, and she and teammates Jaela Smith, Cai | ||
Rogers, and Jourdann Cathro collected the state crown with a total | ||
time of 47.27 seconds; the victory was part of dominant showing by | ||
the Ro-Hawk athletes, who clinched the 3A team championship by a | ||
wide margin; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Nunez is continuing a family tradition with her | ||
success in track and field; her mother, Tameka Nunez, was a | ||
seven-time All-American while competing for The University of Texas | ||
at San Antonio under her maiden name, Tameka Roberts; and | ||
WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for | ||
high school track and field athletes, Taylor Nunez has ably | ||
represented her school and community, and she will cherish her | ||
memories of this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Taylor Nunez on winning four gold | ||
medals at the 2023 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to her | ||
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Nunez as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. |
