WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
of Patricia McCall of Houston, who passed away on June 3, 2013, at | ||
the age of 81; and | ||
WHEREAS, A proud fifth-generation Texan and a descendant of | ||
two families from Stephen F. Austin's Old 300, Pat McCall was born | ||
in Houston on March 17, 1932, to Verner and Mildred Powell McCall; | ||
she graduated from The Kinkaid School in 1950 and attended | ||
Randolph-Macon Woman's College; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. McCall was an active member of her community, | ||
and she shared her time and energy as a volunteer with The Kinkaid | ||
School and with the Methodist Hospital Service Corps, where she | ||
earned a lifetime membership; she was also a longtime congregant of | ||
Chapelwood United Methodist Church; and | ||
WHEREAS, Pat McCall was especially passionate about | ||
politics, and she served as a precinct chair, attended several | ||
state and national Republican conventions as a delegate, and | ||
assisted with many local campaigns; she held membership in the | ||
Magic Circle Republican Women's Club, Houston Professional | ||
Republican Women's Club, United Republicans of Harris County, Texas | ||
Federation of Republican Women, and the Greater Houston Pachyderm | ||
Club; among the accolades she received were the "Tough Tusk" award | ||
and meritorious service plaques from the Greater Houston Pachyderm | ||
Club and a mention in Grassroots Women: A Memoir of the Texas | ||
Republican Party by Meg Grier; and | ||
WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteer work, Ms. McCall | ||
enjoyed traveling, and she visited many places across the world; | ||
above all, she was devoted to her four children, Roberta, Joseph, | ||
John, and Margaret, and her eight grandchildren; she also shared | ||
her affection with the many pets she adopted over the years; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although she is deeply missed, Pat McCall will | ||
forever be remembered as a woman of strength and compassion who | ||
remained engaged in the community throughout her life and who found | ||
joy and inspiration in helping others; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
Patricia McCall and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her | ||
family: to her children, Roberta L. Haeckel, Joseph C. Huston, John | ||
F. and Susan M. Huston, and Margaret P. Huston; to her | ||
grandchildren, Megan Huston, Christopher and Lacey Haeckel, Laura | ||
Haeckel, Abigail Haeckel, Joseph Huston, Jr., Sean Huston, Holly | ||
Huston, and Caitlin Huston; to her cousin, William Dwyer; to her | ||
niece, Lila McCall; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be | ||
it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Patricia | ||
McCall. | ||
