R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Captain Kay Langford retired from the Henderson
  County Sheriff's Office on June 17, 2011, drawing to a close a
  notable career with the department that spanned more than two
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Langford joined the sheriff's office as a
  dispatcher in 1989, and while serving in that position, she
  graduated from the East Texas Police Academy, earning her peace
  officer certification; she went on to become the county's first
  female patrol deputy in 1991; she was shot in the line of duty in
  1994, as she responded to an incident of family violence, and later
  earned a Purple Heart medal; and
         WHEREAS, From 1998 to 2002, this outstanding law enforcement
  professional served as the first female criminal investigator for
  Henderson County; she was promoted to lieutenant of the criminal
  law enforcement division in 2002, and the following year, she was
  placed in command of the drug enforcement unit; she was named
  captain in 2009, and she has since overseen narcotics, patrol, and
  dispatch, in addition to the criminal law enforcement division; and
         WHEREAS, Captain Langford holds a master peace officer
  certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
  Standards and Education, and throughout her exemplary 22-year
  tenure with the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, she won the
  respect and admiration of her colleagues; and
         WHEREAS, Captain Langford's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to safeguarding the public have greatly benefited the
  citizens of Henderson County, and she may indeed reflect with pride
  on her accomplishments as she embarks on the next exciting chapter
  of her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Captain Kay
  Langford on her retirement from the Henderson County Sheriff's
  Office and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Captain Langford as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
