||
WHEREAS, Throckmorton High School senior Peyton Woods has
helped to preserve an important facet of local history by producing
a supplemental workbook for the Throckmorton Independent School
District; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Woods began this project after discovering that
the pre-Civil War military outpost Camp Cooper in Throckmorton
County was publicly inaccessible and thus ineligible for
registration with the Texas Heritage Trails Program; after
performing extensive research on the historical site, he created
junior high-level study material to supplement the district's Texas
history curriculum, and soon thereafter, his work was approved for
use by the Throckmorton ISD Board of Trustees; he also donated 20
books, many signed by the authors, relating to county history to the
school library; and | ||
WHEREAS, The Throckmorton Chamber of Commerce has committed
to having 25 copies of the material professionally bound and
donated to the local school system and the area homeschooling
cooperative; Mr. Woods is currently using the curriculum to compete
in Leadership TMCN, a scholarship program administered by the Texas
Midwest Community Network; and
WHEREAS, This notable young Texan has distinguished himself
through his efforts in behalf of Throckmorton ISD, and he may indeed
take great pride in knowing that his work will help local students
learn about the rich history of their county for years to come; now,
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Peyton Woods for contributing to the
Texas history curriculum adopted by the Throckmorton Independent
School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Woods as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives. |
