| WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
| passing of Maria Gutierrez Arevalo of Robstown on July 15, 2017, at | ||
| the age of 85; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Maria Arevalo was born in Three Rivers on October | ||
| 19, 1931; despite lacking a formal education, she helped provide | ||
| for her family through her employment as a farm laborer and at a | ||
| migrant school day-care center; she also worked for the VISTA | ||
| national service program, through which she helped initiate the | ||
| first Meals on Wheels program in Robstown; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Arevalo's passion for politics made her a | ||
| well-known and well-respected figure in her community; she was | ||
| called upon to share her ideas and insights at many a political | ||
| rally, forging a reputation as a champion for the underdog as she | ||
| strove to improve the quality of life in Robstown; in her free time, | ||
| she enjoyed singing, sewing, and chatting with friends and family, | ||
| and she was happy to feed any visitor who came through her door; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. Arevalo cherished her loved | ||
| ones; she was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Juan | ||
| B. Arevalo, and the proud mother of five sons, Jesus, Abraham, | ||
| Francisco, Juan, and Adan, and eight daughters, Viviana, Andrea, | ||
| Mary, Elsie, Alice, Linda, Veronica, and Lolly; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A woman of exceptional wisdom, courage, and warmth, | ||
| Maria Arevalo is deeply missed, and she will forever be remembered | ||
| with great admiration and affection by all who held her close to | ||
| their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of Maria Gutierrez Arevalo and extend heartfelt sympathy to her | ||
| relatives and many friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maria | ||
| Arevalo. | ||
