R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Maria Gutierrez Arevalo of Robstown on July 15, 2017, at
  the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Maria Arevalo was born in Three Rivers on October
  19, 1931; despite lacking a formal education, she helped provide
  for her family through her employment as a farm laborer and at a
  migrant school day-care center; she also worked for the VISTA
  national service program, through which she helped initiate the
  first Meals on Wheels program in Robstown; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Arevalo's passion for politics made her a
  well-known and well-respected figure in her community; she was
  called upon to share her ideas and insights at many a political
  rally, forging a reputation as a champion for the underdog as she
  strove to improve the quality of life in Robstown; in her free time,
  she enjoyed singing, sewing, and chatting with friends and family,
  and she was happy to feed any visitor who came through her door; and
         WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. Arevalo cherished her loved
  ones; she was a devoted wife to her husband, the late Juan
  B. Arevalo, and the proud mother of five sons, Jesus, Abraham,
  Francisco, Juan, and Adan, and eight daughters, Viviana, Andrea,
  Mary, Elsie, Alice, Linda, Veronica, and Lolly; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of exceptional wisdom, courage, and warmth,
  Maria Arevalo is deeply missed, and she will forever be remembered
  with great admiration and affection by all who held her close to
  their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Maria Gutierrez Arevalo and extend heartfelt sympathy to her
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maria
  Arevalo.
