WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
death of Agnes DeJoyce McRoy-Morgan on January 14, 2013, at the age | ||
of 61; and | ||
WHEREAS, DeJoyce McRoy-Morgan was born on October 21, 1951, | ||
in Syracuse, New York, to Dee Madison and Agnes Young; she grew up | ||
in Florida, graduating from Cocoa High School, and went on to earn a | ||
bachelor's degree in social work at Tuskegee University in Alabama | ||
and a master's degree in liberal arts at Dallas Baptist University; | ||
she also completed graduate course work in criminology and | ||
business; and | ||
WHEREAS, She found a life partner in Dr. Warren Morgan, and | ||
the couple shared many happy years together before his death in | ||
2001; they were blessed with a son, Warren Morgan, and | ||
Ms. McRoy-Morgan later took great joy in becoming a grandmother of | ||
two; and | ||
WHEREAS, She moved with her family to Waco, where she worked | ||
as the director of Paul Quinn College's development office before | ||
retiring to Jackson, Mississippi; Ms. McRoy-Morgan was a life | ||
member of the NAACP and a golden life member of the Dallas Alumnae | ||
Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; along the way, she was | ||
recognized as an Outstanding Young Woman of America and as the Woman | ||
of the Year by the American Women's Association; in 1988, the mayor | ||
of Waco created DeJoyce Morgan Day in honor of her service to the | ||
community; and | ||
WHEREAS, DeJoyce McRoy-Morgan treasured the time she spent in | ||
the company of her family and friends, and those she leaves behind | ||
will in turn cherish their memories of this kind and caring woman; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Agnes DeJoyce | ||
McRoy-Morgan and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her | ||
family: to her son, Warren Morgan; to her godson, Lee Gray; to her | ||
sisters, Chyann Armstrong and Sherri McRoy; to her brothers, Willie | ||
Young, Barry Jenkins, and James McRoy; to her two grandchildren; | ||
and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of DeJoyce | ||
McRoy-Morgan. | ||
