R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Mavis Elizabeth Eskew Pape of Austin is
  marking this momentous occasion in her life on April 17, 2019; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Donie in 1919, the former Mavis Eskew is the
  daughter of J. R. Eskew and Nina Linson Eskew, and she grew up with
  six siblings; she graduated from Normangee High School, where she
  played on the tennis team, before going on to attend The University
  of Texas at Austin; on Christmas Eve, 1940, she married Melvin E.
  Pape, and they became the proud parents of two sons, Mark and
  Michael; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Pape enlisted in the U.S. Women's Air Corps
  during World War II, and she served as a recruiting officer in
  Bloomington, Indiana; in 1949, she completed her MBA at Indiana
  University; she taught high school and adult education classes in
  Dade County, Florida, for many years, and she was so beloved by her
  students that some stayed in touch for decades and even visited her
  in Texas following her return to her home state in 1988; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to her family and her community, Mrs. Pape
  supported her husband in his work as the first professional
  director of the Austin Civic Theatre; she later became a staunch
  champion of its successor organization, Zachary Scott Theatre; a
  loyal fan of television's Ellen and Wheel of Fortune, she enjoys
  watching both programs every day; and
         WHEREAS, Mavis Pape is a source of tremendous inspiration,
  and in sharing the experience gained through a century of life well
  lived, she bestows a precious gift of wisdom that benefits all who
  are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Mavis Elizabeth Eskew Pape on the
  joyous occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Pape as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
