WHEREAS, Citizens of Grand Prairie are coming together to | ||
take part in the annual National Night Out on October 1, 2013; and | ||
WHEREAS, Introduced in 1984, National Night Out is sponsored | ||
by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit organization | ||
dedicated to the development and promotion of crime prevention | ||
programs; more than 37 million people in 15,000 communities across | ||
the United States and Canada now participate in the event; and | ||
WHEREAS, Commemorated through neighborhood gatherings, | ||
cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other activities, the | ||
National Night Out helps to build community cohesiveness, | ||
strengthen relations between residents and local police, and | ||
increase awareness of anticrime strategies, while sending a message | ||
of solidarity to would-be criminals; and | ||
WHEREAS, The importance of crime prevention cannot be | ||
overstated, and by taking part in National Night Out observances, | ||
the residents of Grand Prairie are affirming their commitment to | ||
making their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2013 | ||
National Night Out in Grand Prairie and extend to its participants | ||
and sponsors sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable | ||
event; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the city of Grand Prairie as an expression of high | ||
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
