| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 419.909(a), Government Code, is amended | ||
| to read as follows: | ||
| (a) Only an individual certified by the commission as a fire | ||
| inspector may conduct a fire safety inspection required by a state | ||
| or local law, rule, regulation, or ordinance. The following | ||
| entities may provide training related to fire safety inspections: | ||
| (1) the commission; | ||
| (2) the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association | ||
| of Texas; | ||
| (3) the National Fire Protection Association; | ||
| (4) a public junior college; | ||
| (5) a regional fire academy; or | ||
| (6) any state agency with authority over fire safety | ||
| inspections. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. | ||
| If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
