relating to the establishment of a grant program to assist certain | ||
public schools in providing salaries to school security personnel. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 37, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 37.0814 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 37.0814. SCHOOL SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM. (a) The | ||
agency shall establish and administer a grant program to assist an | ||
eligible school district or open-enrollment charter school in | ||
providing salaries to peace officers, school resource officers, or | ||
other security personnel performing law enforcement duties for the | ||
district or school. | ||
(b) A school district or open-enrollment charter school may | ||
be eligible for a grant under this section only if the district or | ||
school employs a total of 10 or fewer security personnel. | ||
(c) The agency shall adopt rules as necessary to administer | ||
this section, including rules that establish: | ||
(1) additional eligibility criteria for grant | ||
applicants; | ||
(2) grant application procedures; | ||
(3) guidelines relating to grant amounts; | ||
(4) procedures for evaluating grant applications; and | ||
(5) procedures for monitoring the use of a grant | ||
awarded under this section and ensuring compliance with any | ||
conditions of a grant. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
