relating to a school district's duty to notify certain parents or | ||
guardians of a program providing students with reading disabilities | ||
the ability to borrow audiobooks free of charge. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 28.006(g-2), Education Code, is amended | ||
to read as follows: | ||
(g-2) In accordance with a notification program developed | ||
by the commissioner by rule, a school district shall notify the | ||
parent or guardian of each student determined, on the basis of a | ||
screening under Section 38.003 or other basis, to have a reading | ||
disability or dyslexia or a related disorder[ |

Texas State Library and Archives Commission providing students with | ||
reading disabilities the ability to borrow audiobooks free of | ||
charge. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
