relating to the development of healthy nutrition and physical | ||
activity guidelines for public school teachers, public school | ||
administrators, and licensed child-care providers. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 114, Health and Safety Code, is amended | ||
by adding Section 114.009 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 114.009. NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY GUIDELINES | ||
FOR CERTAIN EDUCATORS AND CHILD-CARE PROVIDERS. (a) The council | ||
shall develop wellness guidelines to educate public school | ||
teachers, public school administrators, and licensed child-care | ||
providers about serving as role models for children by: | ||
(1) practicing healthy nutrition; and | ||
(2) engaging in physical activity. | ||
(b) The council shall develop incentives to encourage | ||
public school teachers, public school administrators, and licensed | ||
child-care providers to follow the guidelines. | ||
(c) The council shall communicate the guidelines and | ||
incentives to public school teachers, public school | ||
administrators, and licensed child-care providers in this state in | ||
a manner that the council determines is appropriate. | ||
SECTION 2. The interagency obesity council shall develop | ||
the guidelines and incentives required by Sections 114.009(a) and | ||
(b), Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act, not later than | ||
January 1, 2018. The council shall communicate the guidelines and | ||
incentives as required by Section 114.009(c), Health and Safety | ||
Code, as added by this Act, not later than July 1, 2018. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
