relating to a disclosure on advertisements made by a | ||
general-purpose committee of certain political contributions made | ||
to the committee. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 255, Election Code, is amended by adding | ||
Section 255.010 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 255.010. DISCLOSURE BY GENERAL-PURPOSE COMMITTEE. A | ||
general-purpose committee may not knowingly publish, distribute, | ||
or broadcast a political advertisement containing express advocacy | ||
that does not disclose in the advertising the identity of any person | ||
who has made political contributions to the general-purpose | ||
committee that in the aggregate exceed $10,000. The disclosure | ||
must include: | ||
(1) the name of the person who made the contributions; | ||
(2) the city and state in which the person making the | ||
contributions resides; | ||
(3) the principal occupation of the person making the | ||
contributions; and | ||
(4) the amount of the contributions. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 255.010, Election Code, as added by this | ||
Act, applies only to an advertisement that is published, | ||
distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee on or | ||
after September 1, 2011. An advertisement that is published, | ||
distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee before | ||
September 1, 2011, is governed by the law in effect immediately | ||
before September 1, 2011, and the former law is continued in effect | ||
for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
